Kickin' It Shaolin Style - 12 Movie Set

A good buy for old school kung fu fans (includes info on the movies in the set)
This 3 disc compilation is from Mill Creek. The movies are in dubbed English; i didn't find any alternate audio or subtitles. The quality is what you would expect from a Mill Creek package; the films are not restored or remastered. Most are watchable as far as image. Some are full screen cropped (but not too badly in most cases) and some appear to be widescreen transfers. The widescreen movies are slightly better image quality overall. These are older movies mostly from the late seventies and early eighties so don't expect anything more than that.

None of these are rare finds but there is some good action in most of them. Story and action quality ranges from occasionally silly (Dynamite Shaolin Heroes directed by Godfrey Ho (aka Tomas Tang or Walter Lee in the credits here) to not bad (Fist From Shaolin, a poor man's OUATIC).

Overall this is a good value for the money at under $10. YMMV. I don't think any of these are in the larger Mill Creek 50 movie set...

Kickin It Shaolin Style
There are 12 movies that feature various good martial artist e.g. Jet Li, Carter Wong, Lo Lieh etc. However, some of the story lines and production are very poor. Other story lines were okay yet, lacked good direction, then again you had poor martial arts direction. If you are a collector of martial arts movies this maybe a must have. However, if you are looking for good movies -its a hit and miss. I would give it 5 or 6 out of 10; and no more. I purchased it because it had a couple of movies I didn't have already. Once again be careful as you may know with many older Chinese films they have multiple names for the same movie and you just maybe buying a movie you already have.

great
Amazon Customer service met my expectations and blew them out of the water! You guys were helpful and kind. thank you

The Border - The Complete First Season

Moderately Entertaining
The Canadian drama The Border is finally available on DVD for the first time in the United States thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment releasing the complete first season on a three-disc set, which sent me a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my honest review.

The Border is a blend of NCIS and Law & Order, except the series focuses its attention on the fictional ICS (Immigration and Customs Security) agency as it protects the Canadian border from terrorist and smugglers. The agency is lead by Mike Kessler with Maggie Norton as his second-in-command, as they attempt to protect Canada from any threat.

The episodes are:

Disc One:

Pockets of Vulnerability

Gray Zone

Bodies on the Ground

Gross Deceptions

Special Features:

Cast & Crew Commentary

Behind the Scenes with the Cast

Disc Two:

Compromising Positions

Physical Assets

Family...

Gangster Empire: Rise of the Mob

Loved it
I bought "The Mob" and saw this and had to have it. I enjoyed it very much. It explained alot about the mob

Gangster Empire: Rise of the Mob - a documentray worthy of the name "Documentary"!
This is a very well produced documentary; riveting, factual and excellent as far as the history it introduces the viewer to: a topic which many may have known only a small part of, or never knew about at all.

Lionheart Productions, known for their authentic re-enactment footage, provides some beautifully lit scenes and realistic dialogue as well as a top-notch narrator and very professional, "character voices" featured throughout the documentary.

For the price of under $12.00, in most cases, this is a documentary well worth the cost.

Future, historical documentaries made by this team, more which are under way, should be considered by those fans of well produced, factual and interesting documentaries. The viewer is sure to be informed, educated, entertained and delighted, as is the case with: Gangster Empire: Rise of the Mob!

Great care was taken to be accurate
There was a clear and consistent effort to be as accurate and authentic as possible in the creation of this DVD series. The historical recreations are intense, layered and detailed with great care in the original images and footage and historical truth and authenticity along with the powerful voice of narrator Coby Batty and other voice actors help to bring these stories to life. Great for a fan of "Boardwalk Empire" and the worth of the real ORIGINAL gangsters. Great historical background to this complicated and deadly era.

Flying Fists of Kung Fu - 12 Movie Set

Nice price, only for fans of (mostly) old school kung fu
This is another new Mill Creek set of 12 martial arts movies from the 1970's and 1980's. They are not restored or remastered. Many are fullscreen cropped, others are cropped letterbox which I will call widescreen for this review. The image quality is not very good on most of them, but they are watchable in my opinion. Many of the movies are known by more than one name. The audio in this set is all English dubbed with no alternate audio and no subtitles as far as I can tell. No special features, just 12 movies. I don't think any of these are on the Mill Creek set of 50 martial arts movies.

There are better versions of some of these movies available but for the price this is a decent collection if you don't already have most of these in your library.

7 Steps Of Kung Fu (1979) WIDESCREEN

Ninja Fists Of Fire (1974) FULLSCREEN

18 Fatal Strikes (1978) FULLSCREEN

5 Pattern Dragon Claws (1983) FULLSCREEN

Crane Fighter...

Great Action Packed Movie
I gave this movie 5 stars because it is full of great Kung Fu action. There is some humor in the movie which contributes to its entertainment.
